We had a wonderful time giving our first ever live tech demo of the Axion scanner production prototype last Thursday. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image generously hosted us in their conference room, along with Archivists and Digitization Specialists from organizations such as the Briscoe Center for American History, the Harry Ransom Center, and the Perry-Castañeda Library.
We set up the scanner and performed a scan of a quick, 3-minute "soundie" from 1941 on 16mm to demonstrate the workflow, image quality, and optical soundtrack processing capabilities of the scanner and software. Switching format to Super8, we then looked at capturing magnetic audio, as well as using the 12-bit, full-color LED light source for in-scan, analog-domain color correction.
The attendees offered helpful, encouraging, and insightful feedback that we are already taking into account as we move toward the release of the Axion scanner and plan for future products. We aim to serve the needs of all who work with small-format films and always welcome feedback, feature-requests, or questions from the professionals we interact with.
A huge thanks once again to Texas Archive of the Moving Image for hosting and coordinating attendance. We look forward to seeing and hearing from all of you in the future!
